Abstract

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to identify influence of emotional intelligence and critical thinking disposition on self-leadership in nursing officers in armed forces hospitals.

Methods : Initial data were collected from October, 11th to 28th, 2016 with self-report questionnaires at three armed forces hospitals in Korea. 175 subjects agreed to participate in this study. Data were analyzed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression using the SPSS 21.0 program.

Results : This study showed that emotional intelligence and critical thinking disposition are positively correlated with self-leadership, and critical thinking disposition, emotional intelligence, and education level explained 41.9% of self-leadership.

Conclusion : The results confirm that nursing officers` emotional intelligence and critical thinking affects self-leadership. Accordingly, to improve nursing officers` self-leadership, it is necessary to develop and apply education program that can improve self-leadership as well as emotional intelligence and critical thinking disposition.
